Sir Keir Starmer is king of all he surveys in Labour. He controls the Parliamentary Party, the NEC, the Party HQ and the major unions are either led by allies or staying out of politics. He is also riding high in the polls with his party having led in all polls in 2022.
Yet doubts remain.
Does Starmer have the charisma to make people want to vote for him? Does Labour have a compelling vision or any vision at all? Will it be so concerned with playing it safe that it says nothing at all? There is increasing pressure for his leadership to move away from broad brush themes of patriotism, respect and competence towards actual ideas about how the UK will prosper in a world facing multiple health, economic and social crises. Meat needs to be put on the bones.
